Disaster Response
Bangladesh is highly vulnerable to natural disasters such as floods, cyclones, river erosion, storm surges, and the impacts of climate change. Every year, these disasters disproportionately affect poor and marginalized communities, particularly in coastal and char areas.
Manobsur Unnayan Sangstha (MAUS) works to reduce disaster risks and support affected communities through timely, inclusive, and community-centered disaster response initiatives. Our approach covers preparedness, emergency response, and post-disaster recovery to ensure resilience and dignity for vulnerable populations.
Our Key Interventions:
- Community-based disaster preparedness and risk reduction (CBDRM)
- Awareness programs on disaster prevention and safety measures
- Formation and capacity building of local disaster management committees and volunteer groups
- Emergency relief support including food, safe drinking water, and essential supplies
- Rescue, evacuation, and temporary shelter support during emergencies
- Special protection and assistance for women, children, persons with disabilities, and elderly people
- Post-disaster rehabilitation and livelihood recovery initiatives
MAUS believes that strengthening community capacity and preparedness is essential for minimizing disaster losses and ensuring sustainable development.
